How Does IHNYC Help
Families?
Our organization assists families in regaining
their independence and self-sufficiency by assuring that parents:
• Obtain employment, stabilize their income, and improve money
management skills.
• Avail themselves of government and other help agency support
services.
• Become involved in training opportunities to improve job and life
skills.
• Participate in counseling (informal and professional) to address
social and emotional problems.
The IHNYC staff and volunteers:
• Address the immediate and basic needs of families by providing
food and shelter.
• Identify the direct cause of their homelessness and address it
through counseling and “life skills” training.
• Work with families to create individualized Family Contracts that
contain objectives for employment, finances, health needs,
education, and a wide range of life skills.
• Nurture the entire family in an atmosphere that embraces
responsible parenting and healthy family relationships.
